Dave Hendricks started Waubun HVAC Pros in 2012 as an owner-operated heating and cooling shop at 1259 1st St in Waubun, MN 56589. More than a decade later, the model hasn't changed. When you call, Dave answers. When a technician pulls into your driveway, it's the same person who took your call, and he's the one who stands behind the repair.

Why a Waubun-based HVAC shop matters

Waubun is a small town of about 400 people on U.S. Highway 59, ten miles south of Mahnomen and five miles north of Ogema, inside the White Earth Reservation. For a lot of households out here, the nearest full-service heating contractor has traditionally meant a drive from Detroit Lakes, Bemidji or further. That works for a scheduled summer tune-up. It doesn't work when the furnace goes out on a January night and the forecast low is thirty below.

Dave grew up in Mahnomen County, so he knows the housing here: farmhouses that have been added onto three times, 1960s and 1970s ranch homes with original ductwork, manufactured homes with downflow furnaces, lake places around the Twin Lakes that sit empty half the winter, and newer builds with high-efficiency furnaces vented through the side wall where the drifts pile up. He knows how the fuel situation works too. Much of the area heats with propane, many homes use Wild Rice Electric's off-peak heating program with a backup furnace, and heat pumps are showing up more every year.

How we work

Every job starts with a real diagnosis. That means testing the system under load and finding the cause, not just replacing the part that failed. You get a written price before any work begins. If a repair makes sense, we'll say so. If a 25-year-old furnace is about to need its third expensive part in two winters, we'll show you the math on replacement and let you decide. No pressure and no upsell scripts.

Regular hours run Monday through Friday 8am to 10pm and weekends 9am to 8pm, so most calls get handled at regular rates even after a full workday. Emergency no-heat and no-cool calls are answered 24/7, because in northwest Minnesota a furnace failure is a safety problem, not an inconvenience.

Furnace repair and replacement, air conditioning repair and installation, cold-climate heat pumps and dual-fuel systems, ductwork inspection and repair, and seasonal maintenance for furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps. We serve Waubun, Ogema, Mahnomen, Naytahwaush and Bejou first, and regularly travel to Ada, Halstad, Fertile, McIntosh, Lengby, Red Lake Falls, Thief River Falls, Park Rapids and Wolf Lake.

I grew up in Mahnomen County and have been fixing furnaces and air conditioners around Waubun since I opened this shop in 2012. The job out here is different from the Cities. Houses are older and more spread out, a lot of people heat with propane or off-peak electric, and when something breaks at twenty below there's no margin for waiting until Monday.
